Literacy, Numeracy, English Language helpline & referral
Nottinghamshire has so much to offer in Literacy and Numeracy that finding the right course can be difficult! For English Language, the demand is so great that BEGIN's central placement of students has been essential. BEGIN offers confidential, impartial information and support to help learners find exactly what they need. Classes are usually free* and are available locally in small groups, we can help you find a class that is suitable for you. If you want a qualification the National Test is also available which is a quick multiple choice test which can be the same level as a GCSE. BEGIN is an independant organisation that aims to give a quality and impartial service to help you find the course you need. If you, or a client of yours has a Basic Skills need, BEGIN is the organisation to contact for help. You can contact us by telephone on 0115 978 0942 or 01623 441 064 for a friendly, confidential chat, or you can fill out one of our referral forms and we will contact you or your client as soon as we can. ESOL Placement Service (English for Speakers of Other Languages) There is ONE Waiting List for ESOL classes in Nottingham. BEGIN works with all the Nottinghamshire Colleges and many providers to find classes and place learners as quickly as possible. There is high demand for classes and it can take a few weeks to process applications. What people say about BEGIN... "I assess young people for benefits and I use BEGIN to refer those who want to improve their Basic Skills. Increasingly, there is a demand from Refugee and Asylum Seekers. Everybody is helpful, friendly and efficient. What's crucial is BEGIN provides information promptly." Lynda, Castle Court Job Centre. "We are an employment and education project for Nottingham Prison. When individuals are released, if they have literacy or numeracy problems we refer them to BEGIN. Their service has been excellent. I need to work quickly and they make that possible, they make an appointment immediately. Literacy and numeracy problems are high in prison. Individuals make progress with us, but momentum can be lost when they leave prison. That's why I use BEGIN. They are friendly and approachable and they get the job done." Dawn Price, SOVA, Nottingham Prison. *Free to UK Residents Change how this website is viewed and make it more accessible by visiting our Accessibility Page. |
