Getting on an ESOL Course

BEGIN is the central information, advice and placement service for English for Speakers of Other Languages classes (ESOL) in Nottingham.  There are a lot of people waiting for ESOL and formal College courses are not open to everyone all year. So you may:
  1. start with Informal groups,
  2. then move on to more formal Community courses
  3. then move on to formal College courses with exam routes.
BEGIN currently offers ESOL classes with:
  • Nottingham College or other centres that run formal ESOL courses with exams
  • Formal Community courses at local venues
  • 26 Informal Language & Conversation Groups - at churches, libraries, community centres & other venues
  • Catch-22 for young people
  • 3 private language schools, who give learners the chance to improve English with their trainee teachers
  • Read Easy volunteers who help people 1:1 with reading practice
If you want to learn English, we will add your name to the waiting list for these classes.  Please:
  • Telephone BEGIN, or ask someone to telephone for you, or
  • Fill in the Enquiry Form below, or
  • Ask someone at a college, or other organisation in the community to help you fill in an ESOL Enquiry Form.  They will send your Enquiry Form to BEGIN.
Please give as much information as you can so BEGIN can try to find you a class at the right level, time and place. We will check to see if you can get free classes. We will contact you if we need more information or we think that you have to pay.

Please remember to tell BEGIN if any of your details change, eg, your address, phone number, your work times, your childcare arrangements, if you are going away, or, if you do not need ESOL classes anymore.  Also, if you are concerned about your enquiry, please feel free to contact us.

BEGIN will keep your information in confidence
*. We will telephone you and send you an appointment when there is a class for you at a college or other learning centre.  If there is a long wait, we will tell you about other help for you, eg, the Informal Language and Conversation Groups, website learning.
